There are much more
important things in having a website then just having a web presence.
Articles and content have become the key element in the success of your
website. If you were to look at the internet as a huge library and the
site within the net as the books, then your site is a book amongst
millions. If your book simply had pretty pictures and no or little
content, then it will not pull up very well when someone is searching
by keywords within books in the library.

We hear about them all the time, data breaches or security breaches* that
compromise the personally identifiable
information** (PII)
of Borrowers that we have signed documents for. We know that
some of the information we are privy to in our industry can easily and more
than likely be used in identity theft and crimes of fraud, where a borrower’s
credit and financial situation can be affected for many years. Have you ever
stopped to wonder; with all the horror stories we hear about identity theft,
when will it be your turn? When your turn has come; who will be the responsible
company that caused the breach?

It is very important to determine your service area along with your fees. How far will you go for $XX? At what distance does it become unprofitable to travel for that fee? How much more will it cost to travel to the location? How much will you need to add to your base fee to service a particular location?

We have all been approached by the last minute Loan Officer,
Mortgage Broker or even the occasional Escrow Officer who wants to get the deal
done in a hurry. You get through all the preliminaries, Name, Address and Phone
and you've agreed to a price and know the deadline. Then comes "Oh, by the
way..." or "There's just one more detail..." and it always has
the smell of something foul. They ask you to back-date, or fudge your invoice
or some other act that would force you to color 'outside the lines'.

Give your audience
something to remember you by and why they want to use your services. As
Notary Signing Agents, we seem to have a low esteem of our business and
run it as just that, a small business at best. What if we began
thinking of our industry as a large corporation and ran it in the same
manner. We would become more serious about Branding, Advertising,
Marketing, And a huge amount of other things that we Notaries as
individuals don’t seem to bother with.
